Orange Stang

With a stunning image of the pop your eyeballs orange Ford Mustang adorning it’s cover, the August 2013 edition of Wheels was off to a bright start. In fact, even the cover image itself was enough to make you grab a copy and see more of this magnificent design work. The inside story featured another beautiful image of the pony car, a rear three quarter highlighting that gorgeous swooping tail. It was all a prelude to the arrival Down Under of what was to become the blue oval’s Aussie hero car, scheduled for release in Australia in 2015.

However, once getting into the pages, you find the cover story impact may be usurped by the brilliant lines, massive power and rampant technology exhibited by the Porshe 918 Spyder on display in a mid edition feature. As driven by the most fortunate journalists on the Leipzig test track, the 600kw ‘hyper-hybrid’ supercar predicted a wild new era.

Elsewhere, there’s a cavalcade of wondrous machines covered including Maserati Ghibli, Audi R8 E-Tron, Volvo S60 Polestar and Holden Malibu, as well as stories on the Audi DTM V8 and Rennsport Porsche event plus a group test where Volkswagen’s TDI is pitted against its Euro rivals.
